Telford and Wrekin Council press release 26th July 2010
A major celebration event is being planned to mark the end of the first phase of Telford & Wrekin Council’s regeneration of Dawley.
The regeneration of the town centre, part of the Council’s Borough Towns Initiative, has included repaving of the High St, a new bandstand depicting the history of the town, new benches, lighting, CCTV and improved car parking facilities.
To celebrate the end of the work, due in the early Autumn, and by way of a thank you to the people of Dawley for their patience while the work has gone on, there will be a community celebration event.
The Council will announce the precise date soon. As part of the event, Birse, the contractor delivering the works, have offered to support the celebration
Cllr Helen Williams, ward member who is working with Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet on the town’s regeneration, said: “It will be a great way for everyone to come together and celebrate the transformation that is underway in Dawley.
“This work set out to revitalise Dawley’s centre and make it much more attractive place for people to visit, shop and do business, I think everyone will agree that it has more than achieved this.
“People here have always been proud of Dawley and now we have even more reason to be.
“With the news that the regeneration will continue with the building of the new Sports & Learning Community to replace the Phoenix School, a new supermarket and other new retail facilities, it can only mean that things continue to look up for Dawley.”
Bowling green investment – Enthusiasts asked for opinions over facilities
Article from the Shropshire star 15th July 2010
Bowlers in Telford are being urged to make their views known as part of a campaign to invest in bowling green facilities in part of the town.
One bowling green has already been lost in Dawley with the demolition for redevelopment of the Dun Cow Pub.
And another pub, the White Horse pub in Heath Hill, Dawley and a neighbouring bowling green has outline permission for housing.
Now Telford and Wrekin councillors are in talks over ploughing funds into one the few bowling greens in the area, Dawley Park, which currently has no club house.
And they are urging bowlers to attend a meeting later this month to discuss its future.
Talks have already started with bowlers over the investment needed to make improvements in Dawley Park.
Site visits have been made with bowlers, ward councillors and Telford and Wrekin council officers.

Dawley’s car parks are now all open to traffic following a programme of work to update and improve them.
Telford & Wrekin Council has been carrying out improvement works in Meadow Road, George Street and Burton Street car parks as part of its major regeneration of Dawley.
Meadow Road and George Street opened earlier this year after undergoing a revamp under the Council’s Borough Towns Initiative, which saw them both tidied up and the addition of a number of spaces and disabled spaces.
Burton Street has been the last car park to undergo its makeover and is now also substantially open to traffic with some small areas remaining cordoned off while work is completed.

Council to explore investment for Telford Ice Rink
Press release from Telford and Wrekin Council 9th June 2010
Telford & Wrekin Council is seeking to regenerate Telford Ice Rink as part of the future plans for Southwater within Telford Town Centre.
The Council is inviting operators with a successful track record of managing and improving ice rinks to submit proposals that will deliver a multi million pound investment into Telford’s Ice Rink.
The opportunity for investors is significant, the Ice Rink with other leisure uses together with bars, restaurants, high quality public areas, shops, homes, hotels and offices, is a major factor in the potential for this investment.
Interested parties will be required to identify how they would meet the Council’s requirements for investment into the Ice Rink and enhance facilities for all customers including the successful clubs based at the Ice Rink.
